What a Clay Bar Removes

  • Industrial fallout and rail dust — tiny iron particles that embed and rust
  • Overspray from nearby painting or road work
  • Tree sap and pollen residue baked on by Florida sun
  • Lovebug and tar remnants left after washing

Try the bag test: put your hand in a thin plastic sandwich bag and lightly glide it over clean paint. If it feels gritty, it needs clay.

How We Do It

  1. Hand wash with a foam pre-soak and two-bucket method.
  2. Iron decontamination spray dissolves embedded metal particles.
  3. Clay with lubricant, panel by panel, folding the clay often so grit never drags across the paint.
  4. Protect — freshly clayed paint is bare, so we finish with wax, sealant or a ceramic coating.

Clay bar and iron decontamination are included in our Platinum package and are the first step of every paint correction. Get a quote or see all packages.

Clay Bar FAQs

How often should I clay my car?

Once or twice a year for most vehicles, and always before polishing or applying a coating.

Can a clay bar scratch paint?

It can if it’s used dry or dirty. We use plenty of lubricant and fresh clay surfaces, and follow up with polish where needed.

Does clay remove swirl marks?

No. Clay removes contamination on top of the paint. Swirls are in the clear coat and need paint correction.
